Question: Councillor M. Baker:

“To ask the Manager to write to An Post requesting that they explain why so manypost boxes in the County have been blocked off from usage as this is causinginconvenience to residents and business people?”

Reply:

The Council has received the following correspondence from An Post.”The decision to close boxes in the area were made by The Collection & DeliveryProject Team based on The Communications Regulators (ComReg) requirements, that is “a customer should have a posting facility within 1Km walking distance”. Also considered was the volumes of mail collected from these boxes. With few exceptions all post boxes received two clearances daily and three where a box is situated outside a Post Office.”
