Gully Cleaning

Written:

To ask the Chief Executive if there is a maintenance routine in place for the cleaning of
gullies within the County?
Reply:
DLR has a well-established and proactive approach to maintaining gullies across the network.
Our maintenance programme is informed by a regularly reviewed and updated list of known
flooding hotspots. These areas are prioritized during periods of inclement weather, ensuring
targeted interventions where they are needed most.
Routine gully cleaning is largely driven by reports received through our Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) system, which allows us to respond promptly to issues as they arise. In
addition, we carry out a bi-annual cleaning to ensure comprehensive coverage across the
network.
Our street sweeping operations also play a key role in supporting gully maintenance by
clearing debris that could otherwise obstruct drainage systems. The sweeping team provides
valuable insights that help refine and inform gully cleaning priorities.
Cleansing Section (gully cleaning team) also plays a crucial role in supporting the gully repair
programme for road maintenance section by identifying and reporting areas where repairs
are needed
Together, these measures demonstrate DLR commitment to maintaining a robust and
effective system for managing road drainage, minimizing flooding risks, and ensuring public
safety
