To ask the Chief Executive to provide an update on what plans are in place for 2025 to tackle
the ongoing problems with weeds in Deansgrange Cemetery?
Reply:
In 2024 Envirico were engaged to undertake a survey and habitat mapping of Deansgrange
Cemetery to establish the extent of infestation of Field horsetail (Equisetum Arvense) within
the cemetery.
No invasive alien plant species as listed in the Third Schedule of Statutory Instrument
477/2011 was recorded during the survey. However, the presence of Field Horsetail
(Equisetum arvense) was noted across most of the site.
A number of other invasive plants were noted within the cemetery:
· Buddleia
· Spanish bluebel
· Three Cornered Leek
· Cotoneaster
· Canadian Fleabane
Envirico have once again been engaged to carry out bruise and spray herbicide application
throughout 2025. The first herbicide application is scheduled for May.
