Upgrading of Lighting on Avoca Road

Question: Councillor M. Baker:

To ask the Manager to upgrade the lighting on Avoca Road in Blackrock as the current light levels are dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. When will this work take place?

Reply:

Further to a site inspection the public lighting coverage is limited at the road bend between ESB Network poles 5 and 6. ESB Networks have installed a new pole between poles 5 and 6 and our maintenance contractor has been instructed to install a new public light on this ESB Networks pole. This new public light will improve the lighting at the road bend and also improve the overall lighting uniformity for the road. The existing lanterns are modern SON lanterns and are considered adequate for this street. To ensure that the existing lanterns are working to full performance our maintenance contractor has also been instructed to re-lamp and clean the visors for all the existing lanterns on the road. The work is planned to be carried out by the DLRCOCO contractor before Christmas. Please note that the new lantern requires a connection application to ESB Networks and could take weeks as multiple steps have to be completed before the connection can take place.
