Metrification of Road Signs

Question: Councillor M. Baker:

"To ask the Manager the following about metrication of road signs: (a) when will the signage be changed;(b) will the total cost be met by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government;(c) when will a review of speed limits be undertaken in the County on major roads?"

Reply:

(a) All the ‘Imperial' signs will be removed by 19th January 2005. Metric signs shall be in place on 20th January 2005. It is planned to start work a week ahead of the changeover. Some work has already begun. Materials are already delivered.(b) The Department will give the County Council a fixed fee for each sign. The signs/poles were supplied by the Department.(c) It is proposed to have a review of the County Speed Limits commencing in mid 2005 in the context of the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Act 2004, and any regulations made thereunder by the Minister for Transport.
