Parking Permits

Written:

March 2005 Council meeting

It was proposed by Councillor M. Baker and seconded by Councillor J. Bailey:

"That the Manager reviews the policy of not granting parking permits for teachers working in schools in localities where paid parking applies, in order to support education."

The following report of the Manager, copy of which had been circulated to the Members was NOTED:

"The recent review of the Parking Bye-Laws involved widespread public consultation in the areas affected by the Bye-Laws, together with advertisements in the National Press. The provision of parking permits for public Primary School Teachers was omitted from the revised Parking Bye-Laws following receipt of legal advice. The issuing of permits to National School Teachers was deemed to be discriminatory to other professions and members of the business community. There are no proposals, at present, to amend the Bye-Laws."
