Water Quality Management Plan

Written:

January 2005 Council meeting

Question: Councillor M. Baker:

"To ask the Manager if Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have a Water Quality Management Plan? If such a plan exists could a copy be sent to me. If no such plan exists is there an intention in the near future to produce such a plan?"

Reply:

The Water Framework Directive (WFD) requires that all member states adopt a comprehensive integrated basin-based approach to water management. Under the WFD, 8 River Basin Districts have been set up with the objective of achieving good status for all our waters by 2015. DLRCC is part of the Eastern River Basin District Project (ERBD). Following the recent completion of a Characterisation Report, the ERBD project will deliver a "Programme of Measures" in 2005 and a Draft River Basin Management Plan in 2007. This will be a proposed strategy to integrate our economic, recreational and environmental demands on water.
