ALTERNATIVE ACCOMMODATION FOR BLACKROCK LIBRARY

Question: Councillor M. Baker:

“To ask the Manager to advise what arrangements have been made to provide alternative accommodation for Blackrock Library, Blackrock Community Playgroup and the Order of Malta due to the refurbishment of the Town Hall building in Blackrock? Any additional information would also be most welcome.”

Reply:

The VEC development in Blackrock will include a larger library for the area than the one that exists at present, which will be operated, equipped and staffed as part of the council’s public library service. A suitable temporary premises has been found for the library and negotiations are near completion.

The Blackrock Community Playgroup, with the assistance of the County Council have recently secured alternative accommodation at “Urban Junction” in the premises of the Methodist Church, Newtown Avenue, Blackrock and will be relocating in the week commencing Monday 23rd April. An offer of alternative accommodation has been made to the Order of Malta and discussions, which are proving difficult, are ongoing.
