MEETING OF DÚN LAOGHAIRE AREA COMMITTEE29TH OCTOBER 2008BEACH IN BLACKROCKQuestion: Councillor M. Baker:

"To ask the Manager what measures can be put in place to highlight the beach inBlackrock so that the amenity value of this area can be maximised? This issue washighlighted in the adjudicators report from the 2008 Tidy Towns Competition?"

Reply:

Following an inspection of the foreshore in question, it has been observed that there is limited access for beach users and no access for disabled beach users. There are many such areas along the coastline of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown which are not promoted and highlighted as a bathing amenity. This area is not a designated bathing area under the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Council would not have sufficient resources to promote it as such.
