Greyhound Issue New Calendar For Collection Dates

Meeting of DĂșn Laoghaire Rathdown County Council

Written:

9th February 2009

Question: Councillor M. Baker:

To ask the Manager to explain why the collection dates for green bins during the months of January, February and March 2009 have been altered since Greyhound became the operator of this service as this is causing great confusion for residents? Advertisements around the time of the changeover advised residents to continue with the calendar from Oxigen. Can new calendars be distributed to households?

Reply:

The tender for the collection of Green Recyclables has been awarded to Greyhound Recycling and Recovery (GRR) and they commenced work on 2nd January 2009. As part of the Contract GRR were mandated not to change the collection dates without local Council approval and without notifying residents. GRR commenced operations and were provided with information relating to collection dates and adhered to this information. Unfortunately, in relation to a small number of households, this information was not up to date and has caused confusion to householders and GRR. Steps have now been taken by GRR to remedy this situation and information for all areas should now be available on the web site www.greenbin.ie. Both the Council and GRR have worked hard to ensure that all households arereceiving a full and timely service and a programme is in place to deliver calendars to areas where difficulties have arisen.
