Update to meeting of the County Council on 12th October 2009

Councillor M. Baker

To ask the Manager to report on the Coastal Defence Strategy Report by Consultants Malachy Walsh and Partners that was due to have been received by the Council in February 2009?

Reply:

During the consultation process in December 2009 of the Draft Coastal Defence Strategy Study (CDSS) the National Parks and Wildlife Service of the DOEHLG requested that an Appropriate Assessment (AA) be undertaken in accordance with Department of Environment Heritage & Local Government (DOEHLG) guidelines issued in late 2009. Stage 1 of this process has been carried which involved screening to determine if a full AA is necessary. We are now about to proceed to Stage 2, ie, to carry out an AA on the CDSS which will take approximately 6 weeks and therefore delay completion of the report
