Graffiti on DART walls

Meeting of DĂșn Laoghaire Area Committee

Written:

27th June 2011

Motion: Councillor M. Baker:

That this Committee requests the Manager to write to Iarnrod Eireann requesting that the graffiti on the walls along the DART line be removed as it is very unsightly.

Report:

The Council met with Iarnrod Eireann last year to discuss the issue of graffiti along the rail line. They informed the Council at the time that while they have a budget for maintenance of railway stations, because of the costs involved, funding is a problem for graffiti removal along the rail line. They indicated they were investigating ways of prevention before committing to expenditure on removing graffiti. The Council has again contacted Iarnrod Eireann who have indicated their budget has been reduced even further. However they have recently recruited a person to assist in tackling the graffiti problem and they are in the process of arranging meetings with the Gardai on the issue.
