Lighting in Carysfort Park

Meeting of DĂșn Laoghaire Area Committee

Written:

23rd January 2012

Motion: Councillor M. Baker

That the Manager would report on improving the lighting in Carysfort Park, in particular on pathways that are currently not lit. Could the report include some estimates as to the cost of such lighting.

Report:

We do not encourage the installation of lighting within parks when alternative routes along nearby public paths are provided. The provision of lit path/routes through parks and open spaces are only provided where there is no other alternative route. Accordingly we are not in favour of encouraging public foot fall through parks after dark for safety reasons. In the case of Carysfort Park there are other alternative routes available for the public and residents around the park in the form of road side paths which are adequately lit.Following a discussion during which Ms. Bridget Treacy, Parks Dept. responded to Members queries it was decided that Cllr. M. Baker would liaise with the Manager with details of areas that need to be lit.
