New Pedestrian Crossing Carysfort Avenue

Meeting of the Dun Laoghaire Area Committee

Written:

Motion: Councillor M. Baker
“That this Committee requests consideration of the installation of a mini roundabout on Carysfort Avenue at the Avondale Lawn/Carysfort Avenue junction with a view to reducing speed on Carysfort Avenue and providing some traffic islands on Carysfort Avenue which would aid pedestrians who wish to cross at this junction.”
Report:
The issue of providing a mini roundabout on Carysfort Avenue at Avondale Lawn junction as a speed reduction measure and to assist pedestrians crossing Carysfort Avenue has been considered.

The speed limit on Carysfort Avenue is 50kph and there are a number of speed limit signs installed along its length. There is also a digital speed alert sign provided on the road in the eastbound direction. In relation to making provision for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users it would be considered that the provision of a fully signalised pedestrian crossing at a suitable location in this area would be more beneficial than a roundabout. Such a crossing would serve the residential and
commercial developments along here and also benefit the nearby playground in Carysfort Park.

If this proposal is acceptable site surveys and inspections can be commenced with a view to providing this pedestrian crossing.

This motion was agreed so the site survey and design work can commence.
