MEETING OF DÚN LAOGHAIRE-RATHDOWN COUNTY COUNCIL10 MARCH 2008POLICY IN RELATION TO FELLINGS OF TREESQuestion: Councillor M. Baker:

"To ask the Manager to outline what is the Parks Department policy in relation to thefelling of tree(s)? And to further outline what procedure is in place to adviseresidents of the imminent felling of a tree(s)?"

Reply:

Street trees are only felled where they are causing a potential hazard to the public. This could be as a result of decay and disease within the tree or invasive roots whichdamage pavements. Where trees obstruct street lighting they may also be removedif pruning is not sufficient to allow the adequate lighting of the pavement. Weendeavour to contact the residents nearest to the tree to advise them of theremoval, but this may not happen in all cases due to the workload.
