Economic Development and Protection of Employment

Meeting of DĂșn Laoghaire County Council

Written:

9th March 2009

Motion: Councillor M. Baker

That this Council requests the Manager to set up a small task force of Council officials and elected representatives to see how the Council, within its own activities, could protect or even increase employment in the County.

Report:

On 28th November 2008 the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government issued “Guidelines for the Operation of County/City Development Board(CDB) Economic Development Sub Committee” Circular LG 16/08. One of the roles of the Economic Development Sub-Committee identified in the guidelines is to act as the locally based inter-agency task-force to respond to significant issues (e.g. closure of major businesses or development of specific economic initiatives). The Council through its participation in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Development Board and its Economic Development Sub-Committee is already addressing the terms of the motion.
