Question: Councillor M. Baker:
To ask the Manager to include a pedestrian phase on the crossing on Trimleston Avenue at the junction with Rock Road as this would improve pedestrian safety at this junction?
Reply:
The installation of a pedestrian crossing on Trimleston Avenue was considered as part of the Rock Road QBC Scheme. However, following examination of the junction layout, the provision of a crossing here would require a shutdown if the junction for vehicular traffic as it would require an "all red" pedestrian phase. This would have a negative effect on the capacity of the junction resulting in congestion and increased queuing on Trimleston Avenue. However, ducting and manholes were installed at the Trimleston/Rock Road Junction during the QBC works if it was later decided to provide the pedestrian crossing on Trimleston Avenue should the pedestrian numbers warrant its installation at a later stage.
