Resident Parking Permit Documentation

Meeting of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council

Written:

Question: Councillor M. Baker
To ask the Manager to confirm what documentation is kept on file with the parking section for each resident parking permit?
Reply:
The documentation required to be submitted by an applicant for a Residents Parking Permit is kept on file for the period that the permit is valid.
To apply initially for a Residents Parking Permit the documentation required to be submitted with the application form to the Council is:
• a copy of current proof of residency, dated within the last 3 months, showing the residents name and address. The application form lists the documentation that would be considered acceptable evidence of residency to the Council;
• a copy of the current insurance certificate for the vehicle. [If the car is registered in the name of a company, a letter from the company is required to verify employees use of the vehicle.]
• a copy of current driving licence;
• a copy of current tax disc.
The application form notifies applicants of the requirements and that the appropriate fee must be provided. Residents may be required to provide any other information to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in relation to an application, if deemed necessary and sought by the Council.
To renew a Residential Parking Permit, residents are only required to produce a copy of current proof of residency, dated within the last 3 months, showing the residents name and address. The documentation required to be submitted by an applicant for renewal of a Residents Parking Permit is kept on file for the period that the permit is valid. The evidence of residency provided at the time of the previous application is out of date at the time of renewal and is required to be updated to verify that the resident is still at the address to which the permit relates. The provision of car parking spaces in many residential areas and residential areas in close proximity to commercial areas is limited. The requirement to produce documentary evidence as to the residency status of an applicant, for both initial applications and renewal applications, is in place to prevent misuse of the residential permit system and is to ensure that Residential Parking Permits are only issued to those that actually reside at the dwelling in the parking control area.
