To ask the Chief Executive if Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council submitted any proposals for the Town Centre First scheme? Will there be any submission for the next round of this scheme and if so what town/s will be submitted?
Reply:
Funding of €2.6 million was announced in December 2021 for the development of Town Centre First Plans. This first phase was provided for under the Our Rural Future policy and supports twenty-six towns that met the Department of Rural and Community Development’s criteria for towns with a population of up to 10,000 people that are located outside of the 5
city metropolitan areas. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council was not eligible to submit any proposal under the initial phase.
The Department of Rural and Community Development’s recently published Town Centre First policy sets out actions and funding streams that aim to create the framework required to support towns to implement the Town Centre First policy. Funding streams include the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, Rural Regeneration and Development Fund and Croí Cónaithe (Towns) Fund under Housing for All. The Department for Housing, Local Government and Heritage has recently invited Local Authorities to identify potential town centre sites for the delivery of social housing, under the Housing For All “Town Centre First” policy. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council will consider the eligibility and suitability of its towns for this and any future streams.
